Getting Started

New to QR Forge? Welcome! Getting started is simple. First, choose your QR code type from the data type dropdown: Link/URL (for directing people to websites), Text (for sharing information), vCard (for digital contact cards), or WiFi (for network credentials). Fill in the required fields for your chosen type. Then customize the appearance by selecting QR code color, background color, and size. Finally, click Generate QR Code to see your preview, then download the PNG file. If you need more detailed guidance, check our Documentation page for step-by-step instructions and explanations of each field.

Troubleshooting Common Issues

  • QR code won't scan: Ensure high contrast between the QR color (dark) and background color (light). Black on white is most reliable. Check that you're providing adequate white space around the code. Avoid placing the code on reflective or glossy surfaces that cause glare. Test with multiple phones and apps to ensure compatibility.
  • Generated codes are too small: Increase the size value from 100 to 1000 pixels. For print, we recommend minimum 2.5cm x 2.5cm (1 inch). Remember that larger codes are more reliable, especially when scanned from greater distances.
  • Validation errors preventing generation: Read the error messages shown in red. Common issues include: invalid URLs (must start with http:// or https://), missing required fields (like first name in vCard), or incorrect WiFi credentials. Fix all highlighted fields before clicking Generate again.
  • Color customization not working: Ensure you're selecting colors from the color pickers provided. Black (#000000) for QR color and white (#FFFFFF) for background color work best. Avoid colors with similar brightness—the contrast is critical for scanning.
  • WiFi codes not connecting devices: Double-check the SSID (network name) matches exactly—this is case-sensitive. Verify the password is correct, including capitalization. Ensure you've selected the correct encryption type (WPA2/WPA, WEP, WPA3, or Open) matching your router's configuration. Some older devices may not support newer encryption standards.
  • vCard codes don't import contacts: Ensure the first name field is filled—it's required. Email addresses must be in valid format. Phone numbers should contain only digits and the + symbol. Some older devices may not support all vCard fields. Try scanning with a modern smartphone.
  • Download isn't working: Check that pop-ups aren't blocked in your browser settings. Ensure you have adequate storage space. Try a different browser if issues persist. PNG files should download automatically—check your Downloads folder.

Best Practices for Success

To ensure your QR codes work perfectly, follow these best practices: Test every code before distributing it. Scan with multiple phone models and operating systems. Always provide a call-to-action near the code so people know what to expect. For print, use high-quality printing equipment and use minimum 2.5cm size. For digital display, ensure adequate lighting to avoid glare. Use short URLs when possible to reduce code complexity. Place codes in prominent, easily accessible locations. Maintain good contrast and adequate white space around codes. For WiFi codes, verify credentials before distribution.

Advanced Features

QR Forge includes several advanced features to enhance your code generation. Data type flexibility allows you to create different code types without reloading the page—switching types automatically resets fields to prevent mixing data. Color customization lets you match your brand or design requirements while maintaining scannability. Size customization from 100-1000px accommodates everything from small digital displays to large print materials. Error correction (built into all codes) allows codes to be scanned even if partially damaged or obscured. These features combine to give you complete control while maintaining reliability.
